Do you want me to add one of those McLinky things to the post? I've never tried it before, but I guess I can try to add it, if that's what you're talking about. I'm guessing McLinky is some kind of plugin I can get from mclinky.com or the like.

If you don't care about the McLinky stuff, just put it on your blog whenever you want. I didn't make the questions up myself, just my answers, so I don't see why you can't.

Just let me know if you need me to do the McLinky thing. I'm new to memes so honestly I'm not sure how the passing on works when it doesn't go hand in hand with a blog award.

I know. A mandarin orange salad without almonds. How could they? Honestly, I think they meant to give them to me but grabbed an extra noodle package instead. Maybe someone stocked the drive thru sorter thing wrong.

As for visiting, don't worry about it. Is NaNoWriMO the write-a-novel-in-a-month one? I read about that & the one where you post every day. I knew if I decided to take part in either of those, I would be setting myself up for failure. There's something about someone telling me I have to do something that makes me want to do the exact opposite, but I commend you and the others who are participating.

Maybe I'll unofficially try the novel one since it's already too late for the post one. That way there's no public pressure, but if I complete the challenge, then I can brag. :)

I say go with a guinea pig. I still want one of those. I think they're supposed to be a lot sweeter, like rabbits. Plus, as far as I know, they're not nocturnal, so they won't keep you up all night on the hamster wheel. Plus, if you're scared of rats, they really don't look like one, esp. if you get the fluffier ones. The downside--you don't get to build all those cool tunnels.

As for my neighborhood, so do I. I get the cigarette butts as well from the house directly next door and from people driving down the street. I got them when the college student owned that house. I got it when the new people (the ones w/ the loud music and 8 or 9 people packed in like sardines) bought her house after 2 years in foreclosure. The newbies also like to clean out their car by throwing every bit of trash in their car in my yard. Then there are the misc. condom wrappers, candy papers, etc. In the back yard, I get frisbees, footballs, beach balls, & other toys. My new rule is if you don't come ask for it back or if I throw it back over & it ends up over my fence a second time, it's now my dogs' toy, not yours. No beer cans so far, but foreclosed college girl would get drunk & throw water balloons over the fence at the dogs. I also have a the plastic end that goes on a broom in my b.y., & it's not mine. Why that got thrown over I'll never know.

You should pee in the beer cans & then throw them back over the hedge. I bet they won't do it again when that spills all over them.

If I ever had any thoughts of buying a hamster these stories (yours and those in the comments) have completely cured me of that! Gutting, hissing, chewing off children's faces...no thanks.

I read yesterday's post too. I hope you can get out of that neighborhood one day in the not too distant future. I thought it was bad that my next door neighbor's teenage son keeps tossing empty beer cans and cigarette butts over our hedge but your neighbors sound worse.

Maybe you had my hamster. Maybe some pet store saw him come out of the woods, captured him, and resold him to your family, or our hamsters were distant cousins.

Before the gutting, both hamsters escaped all the time, and it took forever to find them. When you did, they practically hissed at you. Not nice at all, not like the hamsters we had at school. Very disappointing.

There weren't flames, but there were huge, billowing clouds of smoke when I opened it up. A tupperware lid fell between the cracks, landed on the heated things at the bottom, melted onto it, and started burning. The apt building I was living in had sprinklers in every apt. It's a miracle I didn't set those off as much smoke came out. I scraped it off as well as I could, but I never used the heat dry setting again.

OMG I had a hamster that was wild and vicious and he used to get out of his cage at night and attack my face while I was sleeping. (This was after he killed his housemate) It was the freakiest thing. My dad finally 'took care' of him. I don't know how, and I don't think I want to know. But we couldn't give him to anyone cuz he was just too feral.

I suppose they were the same gender. I've had other people suggest the same thing to me. I had no idea though. Stupid pet store shouldn't have sold them that way. The second was so wild that we couldn't get anyone to take him. After that, he wouldn't let anyone near him & would bite through thick garden gloves. As much as I hate to admit this, we had to let him go finally in the woods. To this day if small animals are disappearing around that complex, it's probably the killer hamster's doing.

The hamsters we had at school, in contrast, were the sweetest hamsters ever. Each weekend a student got to take them home and babysit. I wish mine had been like that.
