I think that I have only been to one post office where the line was short, and that was in my hometown. They built a new one on the outskirts of town, down by Lowe's. For some reason no one ever goes there; they just go to the old one downtown. They had a nice big parking lot with no one in it. The one downtown, in comparison, barely has a parking lot. You have to parallel park on the street. I can't parallel park the Camaro to save my life so you can see why I like the other one.

When I was at Emory, there was PO in the mall down the street from me. Despite the fact that it was in the mall, it wasn't that bad to go to. I was hoping when I moved here that since this county considers itself part of "metro Atlanta", it would have the same (a PO in a shopping center since there is no real mall); it wasn't.

Bad thing is I didn't even go at lunch because I thought lunch time would be the worst time to go linewise. Boy was I wrong. There was so many people there I was starting to wonder if they were giving away money.

What is it with the post office? Are all post office parking lots like an Indy speedway? Are people just so happy to be free of the mind numbing boredom of standing in the line that they throw caution to the wind? I go to the post office maybe a couple of times a year. I imagine that's normal so why is it that the whole town is in line there every time I have to go? Just don't get it.

Yes, you can reject them online, but there were three mailings in one month, basically one every week and a half. I thought I had rejected them all ONLINE, but I missed one. When you're having to reject one every week instead of once a month, you're bound to miss one, especially when the month before and the month before that there was only one mailing. Plus, when you log on and it says "Feature Selections," it's for the most current mailing. If you don't think to go to "My Account" and see if there are additional FS's outstanding, you'll miss it. They send you emails with the FS, regardless of whether you've already rejected that selection, so it further gets confusing.

However, once you get the books, you can't send them back online. You have to go to the post office. Once I get the credit back, I'm canceling the account. Then I have 2 more books to go with Doubleday & I'm canceling that. I'm not paying what they want for hardbacks when now Walmart.com & Target.com are offering the same books for $9.99 &. if I"m not mistaken, free shipping.

I don't doubt some PO employees are nice and helpful. They're just not all that helpful here, but that's pretty much the attitude of this entire town. Southern hospitality my butt. You only get that if your family has lived here for generation after generation.

Not to be too practical - but can't you reject the books on-line? Don't they have a website or something?

Unfortunately post office employees reflect the towns they work in. Here in Philly they are just blanks, don't smile, don't talk total automatons. In Alexandria they were the nicest most helpful people around. I frequented two on a regular basis, one near my job and one near my home and clerks knew my name and my relationship to the people I regularly sent packages to, as in "oh, package for your brother, it's his birthday right?" And they were. Nice people.
