I have never had a broken bone so I have no idea of Bella's behavior is the norm or if the norm for a dog would even be the same as the norm for a human. She is still limping this morning. Supposedly the x-ray Friday showed that her foot had fully healed. The vet tech who brought her out even said that it would take her awhile to remember how to walk without the splint. However, I thought that by "awhile" she meant a few hours, not a few days or weeks. Does anyone who has either had a broken bone themselves or had a dog or cat with one know how long it takes before you or the animal walks normally again?
I'm going to wait a few more days before calling the vet. Bella's foot did slide down in the splint last week so it's altogether possible that the edge of the splint bruised her paw. The hot spots may also be causing her pain. However, if by Friday she is still limping and still screaming/trying to bite the living crap out of me whenever I touch that foot, I'm calling them. They ought to be used to my overprotective nature by now.
