After another exciting rendition of As the Real Estate World Turns, I'm going to need to spend some quality time with the treadmill later this afternoon or fill one of my extra bedrooms with chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and dive right in. Take your pick. The healthier and less messy choice would, of course, be the treadmill, but I could use a few new tunes before I get on it, something fast and cheery but just not too cheery. If I were to hear "Don't Worry, Be Happy" right about now, I could very well punch someone.
The problem is I only have about $3 left in my iTunes account, and technically those $3 aren't mine. They're my nephew's. I've already borrowed $3 in credits from him, figuring that I'd just pay him back when we get his iPod fixed. I don't want to steal $3 more. Believe me when I say the kid charges interest.
Luckily for me and anyone within punching distance, there is now a site that will let me download songs for free but pay the artists of those songs the royalties rightfully due them. The site is called Kerchoonz. Kerchoonz only allows the artists, writers, or producers of songs to upload their songs to its web site. It then compensates those people according to an ad-revenue agreement each time someone listens to their music on Kerchoonz.com or downloads it.
Kerchoonz also operates as a social platform of sorts, as it provides a place where musicians and fans can interact via blogs, forums, games, videos, widgets, and classified ads. You can even share Kerchoonz videos like this one on your own site:
Not only can listeners sign up for Kerchoonz for free, but they can also get paid for referring a new band or other industry professional to the site. If you're looking to download some free, new, legal music for your iPod or if you would just like to interact with others in the music business, Kerchoonz is worth a look.
What's also worth a look? Jogging music. If anyone has any good song suggestions for running on a treadmill, please let me know. I'm not typically a jogger. I tend to get side stitches when I run, but the way my day has been going, I'm likely to run enough miles to earn an entire $1 for breast cancer research. I would just like something other than my real estate agent's voice echoing in my head to urge me along.
