I had intended to eliminate every speck of dust in my bedroom today or at least as close to every speck as humanly possible to see if it did anything to relieve the pain in my ears. I have noticed during the last few days that my ears seem to be worse when I wake up and when I go to bed. Unfortunately, I had a brain fart for breakfast this morning and forgot that, due to the fact that my house faces west-east in a nearly treeless subdivision, my bedroom gets unbearably hot in the afternoons. It gets even worse the minute the temperature outside gets above 70 degrees. Despite the fact that it was snowing a week ago, the outside temperature rose into the mid and upper 70's today so my room was essentially a sauna. It's gotten so hot in a week's time that I even had to turn on the air conditioner last night. When I did so, I found out that the appraiser who came Monday had left the air conditioner on 64. Boy, I was livid. Like it wasn't bad enough that he left on most of the lights when he left and messed with my security system, but he had to turn my thermostat to an unnecessary, not to mention costly, temperature as well. Yes, there was still snow on the ground Monday, and the outside temps never made it past the low 30's. Yes, the heater was running nearly nonstop. Nevertheless, he didn't have to turn the thermostat to 64 to get the AC to cut on. As I keep my heater set to 68 all winter long, all he had to do was turn the AC to 67 to get it to cut on. Then, had he had the least bit of concern for another person's money, all he had to do was return it to 74. If I had flipped the switch to AC without looking at the readout last night, the air would have run until icicles formed on my and the dogs' noses, and my electricity bill would be double it's normal amount next month.
Do you want to know what I would love to do? I would love to go into all these realtors' and appraisers' homes one day when they're not home or, better yet, when they're out of town, turn on all their lights, unlock all their doors, leave their garage doors wide open, and mess around with their thermostats. Then I want to sit back, watch, and laugh when they get their electricity and gas bills in the mail and find out that they've skyrocketed. I also want to see the expression on their faces as they realize that anyone could have gone into their house while they were gone or might still be in there now because someone else left their doors unlocked and opened. Maybe then they'd stop doing the exact same thing to people like me.
