Doing the Cable Bill Monthly Wince

It's that time of the month again, the time when my cable bill comes due. Sometimes it just amazes me what I pay for cable and not in a good way. I've thought about just turning it off and watching TV via the antenna and Internet. However, even then I wouldn't be able to watch everything that I want to watch. I'd have to fork over money to iTunes to watch my Showtime must-sees, Dexter and The United States of Tara.

If I wasn't planning on moving soon, I would put some serious thought into switching to satellite TV and to Dish Network in particular. Right now, Dish Network is offering viewing packages that start at just $9.99 a month. The rental fee on my two cable boxes is more than that. Based on how many channels that $9.99 covers, I could save an additional $50 or so to boot. Furthermore, if I were to order Dish Network now at LetsGetDish.com, I could get my choice of freebies: an iPod, a home theater system, a digital camera, or a digital picture frame. I could use that free iPod. Mine is fine, but we still haven't gotten my nephew's broken iPod fixed.

Dish Network is also offering great deals on premium movie channels. For instance, I could get over 15 premium movie channels free for three months or five channels of Cinemax for a penny for 12 months. I could even get a free DVR upgrade. The offers are mighty tempting, especially the DVR part. Have I mentioned that I'm the only person in America who doesn't have one? Actually, make that only one of two people. My mother doesn't have a DVR either. Nevertheless, until I know what's going to happen with this house and the job situation, I'll probably just stick with what I have and wince every time I pay the bill.
