My Back Porch Needs a Makeover and a Pre-Spring Cleaning

I spent an hour this morning outside on my covered porch, braving the cold in order to repot some pot-bound plants. While I was sitting there, looking at the dead leaves that the wind keeps blowing up on the pavement, no matter how many times a week I sweep the porch, I was reminded of just how much work my patio needs. The wicker furniture is in desperate need of a good hosing down, not to mention a couple of coats of paint. The two pots of dead wandering Jew need to be thrown away, the leaves need to be swept once again, and the dogs' nose prints need to be wiped off the sliding glass door.

The only thing on that list that I have done so far is to throw away the dead plants. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow, if then. According to the news, an Arctic blast is on its way to Atlanta, bringing with it temperatures so cold that the 20 degree weather that we've been experiencing at night will seem warm. Swell.

Even if it was 80 outside, I doubt that I will ever get around to repainting the wicker. The patio furniture is a hand-me-down from my mother, a set that she bought when I was in the fifth grade and that has been repainted many times since. Why paint it if I'm just going to move? If I knew that I was staying here and could get a job, I'd love to replace the worn-out wicker with either new wicker or some other type of patio set. I love the wicker resin set pictured at the beginning of this post from MaxOutdoorLiving.com, which is a much more modern take on wicker than my mom's country-esque set and much more me. Too bad I only have the ability to look at the picture and drool at the moment.

Seeing as my mom's patio currently supports another set of hand-me-downs--a worn-out iron set that my grandmother is letting her use--I'm going to pass the web site address on to her. I'm not the only one in the family who could use some new patio furniture, and MaxOutdoorLiving.com is a great place to shop. The site has great prices on and a wide selection of wicker, teak, wood, and aluminum patio seating sets, outdoor dining table sets, outdoor cushions, lounge chairs, and fire pits. It also offers a white glove delivery option, something that a lot of online furniture stores do not; interest-free financing; and tax-free purchases in all states but Texas.

Maybe my mom could order one of the fire pits. Then Chandler and I wouldn't have to make s'mores over a candle in the kitchen. Even better, maybe she could find some comfy, weather resistant set that I can sit on when throwing the ball to six dogs or a dining set so we can have cookouts around the pool in the summer. The site has quite a few to choose from, all of which would be better than the faded daisy and green iron number set that she currently uses. It's so stuck in the 70's, it's not even funny.

I wonder if the Arctic front is going to bring Arctic wind as well? If it is, I'm not even going to waste my energy sweeping. I'll just have to do it again as soon as it's over, and it's not like anyone is ever going to show my house for the cleanliness and attractiveness of my patio to matter.
