Yesterday, I would have been willing to trade New York Yankees tickets or my first born for a good night's sleep. Thanks to my sister, I haven't had one since I got to my mom's on the 23rd. To say that she is a night owl is an understatement. She stays up all night blaring the TV in the living room and going in and out the front door to smoke. I'm one of those people who can't sleep with the TV on so, believe it or not, I have actually tried to sleep with ear plugs in my ears. That's not an easy or comfortable thing to do. Even if it was, Bailey, my chihuahua mix, tends to jump off the bed every time my sister opens the front door because he thinks someone is there. Even at 15 pounds, his jumping shakes the bed. Add to that the fact that my sister uses my mom's bathroom at least 5 times in the middle of the night if for no other reason than to turn a bright light on in my face (we're playing musical bedrooms at the moment; I took my mom's room, my mom took my sister's, and my sister took the sofa), and you can see why I have only gotten a series of naps over the last week rather than a full night's sleep.Luckily, last night my sister decided to go to Biloxi with her best friend to pick up her best friend's daughter and to have a girl's weekend of gambling. Thank God! I know that this is a bad thing to say, but when I told my nephew that his mother would be gone for the weekend, he said, "Thank God," as well and gave me a high five. He knew that her absence meant that we could finally play the Wii and what not without her getting jealous and trying to push me out of the way. For the last couple of days, every time Chandler has asked me to play, Tina has managed to get off the sofa long enough to go into his room and say, "No, I'm going to play." He only has two remotes, so do the math. I don't think it's jealousy so much as her just trying to be annoying. My sister may not have a college degree, but she has a master's in being a female dog. Seriously, sometimes I think she's Rosemary's Baby all grown up, if you can call a 28-year-old who acts and dresses like she's 15 all grown up, but I digress.
Anyway, as a result of her road trip, I got my first decent night's sleep last night. I actually slept to 10:45 a.m. this morning. I can't remember the last time that I did that. Hopefully, my sister won't cut her road trip short and come home tonight. I could use another good night of sleep, not to mention that we could all benefit from the peace, quiet, and time apart.
