Okay, my ankles seemed to have survived the jump from my soapbox. Like I said, on to other topics, in this case, blog envy. The more I visit other blogs, the more I hear the growl of a certain green-eyed monster over my computer speakers. This monster likes some of the features that he sees on some of the sites, like Comment Luv or real static pages, and some of the ones that he has heard about, like SEO plug ins. He's just frustrated that he can't have them because he doesn't have a Wordpress blog. He doesn't hate the platform he is currently using. In fact, he likes it, especially its ease of use. He just wishes it had all the bells and whistles of Wordpress.Sooner or later, I know that the growl of the green-eyed monster is going to be so loud that I can no longer ignore it. When that day comes, I'm either going to have to tell him, "Get over it," or start looking for a paid web host that will allow me to use Wordpress. I have already looked at a few sites, but, truth be told, after browsing several in a row, my eyes glazed over, and I could not remember which web host provided what services and at what price. Bookmarking the sites didn't help. The bookmarks eventually moved off my "Recently Bookmarked" category on Firefox and got lost in that black hole known as "Unorganized Bookmarks."
Due to my inability to keep all of the web hosting companies straight, I need a good jumping off point, some site that I can return to when confusion sets in that summarizes all the information for me. I have found one site that fits the bill, WebHostingReport.com. Web Hosting Report takes information on web hosts like price, customer service, and uptime and combines it with user feedback to create reports on those hosts. It then divides those reports into subject-related charts, like best linux hosting and best cheap hosting, that rank the hosts from best to worst and link to Web Hosting Report's review of the host and the host itself. Web Hosting Report further offers several informative articles on how to choose a web host. These articles explain things that people who aren't using paid hosts are likely to know very little about like the difference between shared and dedicated web hosting and bandwidth.
Those articles are definitely something that I am going to have to read. However, for the time being, my blog and I are staying put. The green-eyed monster's growl is still distant enough that I can pretend it's not there. However, the minute the growl grows annoying, I'm making WebHostingReport.com my first stop.
