The Three-Day Headache

Have you ever had a headache that won't go away, no matter what you do? That's what I've had for the last three days. I woke up with it Tuesday morning. It wasn't a pounding headache at that point but I could tell that it could easily become one if I didn't do something about it. Even though I was worried about what drinking something could mean if I had to stand in line for hours at the polls without any access to a bathroom, I nevertheless opened a Coke and took a Tylenol. I was hoping at that point that it was just a caffeine withdrawal headache and that the Coke and Tylenol would help.

Unfortunately, it wasn't, as I spent most of yesterday trying not the throw up and wincing at the slightest bit of light. I assumed then that the caffeine withdrawal headache was actually a migraine that would eventually run its course. Once again, I was wrong. I woke up this morning with sinus pain so bad that it hurt to touch my face. Now my forehead hurts. My cheekbones hurt. My teeth hurt. My eye sockets hurt, and my ears are stopped up yet again. I've taken a Claritin D and two extra-strength Tylenol, but neither has done anything to alleviate the pain. Ditto for the half a bottle of peppermint oil that I have rubbed on my face since I woke up this morning.

If my realtor hasn't called by 5 p.m., I'm going to take a Benadryl. I'm scared to take one now. I don't want to get stopped for DUI should someone want to show my house. Even if the Benadryl doesn't get rid of the sinus pain, maybe it will at least make the whole Lady Heather-centric episode of CSI tonight a complete blur. If you look at it that way, this three-day headache could end up being a blessing in disguise.
