Last week, I was hoping for a Godfather-type wedding on General Hospital, the kind of nuptials that would finally bring an end to the boring drone that has become known as The Kate and Sonny Show. Friday I got it...sort of. Anthony Zacharra shot Kate, but he didn't kill her. The well-dressed idiot is still hanging on in ICU. You've got to love soap world. You can be shot so many times that you're practically see-through, but you still get to live to see another Fashion Week.At first, I felt bad for wanting Kate dead. Sonny looked so sad when he was kneeling next to her on the floor of the church, asking her to stay with him and telling her that she was the first and last girl he would ever love. I even thought for a brief minute that I was going to end up liking Kate after her death, the way I did with Lily. I couldn't stand Lily Corinthos when she was alive. At the time, I couldn't get past the fact that she broke up Sonny and Brenda, but Sonny was so messed up after she and their baby got blown to smithereens that I actually started to like her, so much so that when her surgically-enhanced doppelganger showed up in Port Charles a few years ago, I was actually hoping it was her.
Luckily, my sympathy for Kate only lasted a minute. Now I'm just annoyed by the storyline that has left her lingering on life support. Every day I ask myself is she going to die? Is she going to live? Who gave birth to Sonny's long lost son, her or her cousin Olivia? And who is that son? Could it possibly be Damian Spinelli? Or is it some character that we haven't met yet? At this point, do we really care who he is? Furthermore, will Jason hand the business over to Sonny? Will either of them figure out that the Zacharras are setting them up before Port Charles erupts in an all-out mob war? Will there be more bombs and shooting for November sweeps?
I'm not even sure I care to tune in next time to find out. If I want months of unanswered questions and implausible scenarios, I'll just go watch Lost on DVD.
