Promises Treatment Center: Where Hope and Healing Begin

Friday night I watched the season premiere of Celebrity Rehab 2 with Dr. Drew on VH1. I'm not as familiar with this season's celebrities, if you can even call them that, as I was with last season's celebrities. I know who Tawny Kitaen is because I had MTV back in its pre-reality show days, i.e. back when the channel actually used to show music videos. She's the redhead on the hood of Whitesnake's car in the "Here I Go Again" video. I'd have to be living in a soundproof bubble with no access to TV, the Internet, or a newspaper to not know who Rodney King is, and, of course, I know who Jeff Conway and Gary Busey are. They're practically the poster children for rehab, especially Jeff Conway. I think that the only way that man is ever going to get clean is if he moves in with Dr. Drew himself. Hey, maybe there is an idea for a spin off show somewhere in there.

The show got me thinking about the rest of us, celebrities and non-celebrities alike, who have substance abuse problems or know someone who does. We can't just call up Dr. Drew Lipinsky or ask our agent to contact the powers-that-be at VH1 when we or our loved ones need help. Where do we go then? One place that we can go is Promises Treatment Center, a substance abuse facility in Malibu and West Los Angeles, California.

Promises' take on substance abuse treatment is unique. Its Malibu and West L.A. centers only have 24 beds apiece. This small size guarantees that Promises' patients receive the personal, one-on-one attention that they need to beat their addictions. Promises is also staffed by some of the best professionals in the business. At Promises Treatment Center, you or your loved one will have access to clinical psychologists, marriage counselors, family therapists, licensed social workers, mental health professionals, and detox specialists. In addition, you or your loved ones will be able to learn from the experiences of the staff, many of whom are recovering addicts themselves and who can thus directly relate to what you or your loved one is going through.

Promises' treatment program is not just about detoxifying the body; it's about detoxifying the mind as well. By placing patients in a safe environment, away from the sometimes damaging influence of family and friends, the Promises' staff can teach the patients how to cope with all that life throws at them without using alcohol or drugs as a crutch. For instance, patients will learn how to identify their feelings, how to process and express them in nondestructive ways, and how to ask for help when they are unable to.

In addition to inpatient, residential treatment, Promises Treatment Center offers an extended care program, which helps patients transition from residential treatment to a home environment; day treatment, which allows patients to benefit from a structured environment during the day but still be able to go home at night; outpatient treatment, which gives patients the flexibility to plan their treatment sessions around work, home, and school; and sober living homes, for patients whose own homes are, for whatever reason, not conducive to recovery.

To learn more about Promises Treatment Center, you can visit its website, www.promises.com. You can also call and speak to one of Promises' addiction specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-866-871-3149.
