I mentioned in an earlier post tonight that I agreed with something the folks on TMZ had said about Dancing with the Stars. I used to never watch that show. I thought it gave the paparazzi too much credit for sticking their nose into the stars' private lives. It almost made them, at least the ones who work for Harvey Levin anyway, reality stars in their own right. Plus, I used to think of it as The National Enquirer come to life, and I hate The National Enquirer because it's the only thing that my first stepmother--a.k.a. Step Thing--would read. However, since the economy took a turn for the worse, I can't stand to watch the regular news anymore. I would rather watch a paparazzo harass some B-list has-been at LAX than have to listen to one more story about the stock market crashing, another big company laying off hundreds of workers, the foreclosure rates increasing, credit decreasing, or how to financially prepare for the worst. I'm already pretty close to the worst as is. I have no job. I can't sell my house. I can't use any of my credit cards. My skin is a mess. I can't get rid of this headache, and I have heartburn yet again. Listening to the real news doesn't alleviate any of those problems. It just makes the physical ones worse.
Consequently, I rarely catch the weather on the local news anymore, or, if I do, I hit "mute" until the weather man enters stage left. I also find myself watching shows like TMZ and Dr. Phil between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. because celebrity cellulite and cheating husbands are currently less depressing than the real world, and no, I don't mean the one on MTV.
